Thank you for your interest in Kara Kahl Farm Alpines and Legendairy Toggenburgs. Breeding season is almost complete and we are looking forward to the spring kidding season. Our family has been raising dairy goats for almost forty years. In 2006, we moved to a new farm in southeastern Minnesota, which brings us closer to many of our longtime "goat folk" friends. The goats have always been central to our many adventures as a family, through breeding, showing across the country, attending ADGA National Shows and conventions or just socializing with a wide variety of people who appreciate goats.

In 2005, we were honored to be recognized by the ADGA Pioneer Program at the National Convention for our contributions to the Association and to dairy goat genetics. The genetics of our French Alpines are rooted in some classic Alpine herds, including Laurelwood, Ray-Mar, Hoach's, Missdee's, and Sunshine. In the coming months we plan to develop an archival/historical section for our website where we will profile some of our more memorable Alpine bucks and does who have influenced our breeding program and other herds across the country. Our "A" and "C" lines are all direct descendents of two does purchased in the early 1970's - GCH Mooncrest Ms. Amity and Alderwood Champagne.

****************************

Our Toggenburgs have also been doing quite well.  Much of their genetics link back in some way to the 1991 Spotlight Sale buck, ++*B Nimrodel Opera's Chivas Osage, a buck we purchased at the 1991 Spotlight Sale.  The "R" Toggenburg line began with two does purchased from the Cobbler's Knob herd of Toggenburgs in the late 1980s, while the "W" line began with a doe purchased in the early 1990s from the Dairy Delight herd. The Sunshine and Marshland herds have also made major genetic contributions to the Toggenburgs.

Our "flagship" showing event each year remains the Minnesota State Fair.  We have shown our animals at this fair since 1980, the first year dairy goats were officially exhibited.  Over the years, the number and quality of entries at the fair has increased and we are proud of our herd's consistently strong performance. In 2009, we decided to add another State Fair to our show line-up, and attended the Iowa State Fair for the first time in over 30 years.  Although we  decided to stay home from the National Show in 2009, we are looking forward to Louisville in 2010!

After being on DHIA test for close to thirty years, we decided to go off test a few years before we moved to our new home.  While we value the information we've gained over the years from production testing, going off test made our lives just a bit less hectic and afforded us the small luxury of drying up the herd during the late fall and winter months.  We do keep barn records and production has been highly emphasized in our breeding program.

**********************************

We practice a CAEV prevention program and all kids offered for sale are raised on heat-treated colostrum and pan-fed pasteurized milk. If you have a specific health or management question, feel free to contact us. A deposit of $100 will hold the breeding or kid of your choice. If, however, the kid of your choice is not born, your deposit will be refunded or transferred to the next year.  We reserve the right to retain any kid born for herd replacement reasons.

Please feel free to email, phone or write if you have any further questions.

Once again, thank you for your interest in Kara Kahl Farm!
