Kara Kahl Alpines & Legendairy Toggenburgs
Thank you for your interest in Kara Kahl Farm Alpines and Legendairy Toggenburgs. We have completed our 2011 show season and our 2011-2012 breeding season is underway. We live in the Bluff Country of southeastern Minnesota and our family has been raising dairy goats since 1970. The goats have always been central to our many adventures as a family, through breeding, showing across the country, attending ADGA National Shows and conventions, participating in committee work for both the Minnesota Dairy Goat Association and the American Dairy Goat Association, or just socializing with a wide variety of people who appreciate goats. ***************************
In 2005, we were honored to be recognized by the ADGA Pioneer Program at the
National Convention for our contributions to the Association and to dairy
goat genetics.
The
genetics of our French Alpines are rooted in some classic
Alpine herds, including Laurelwood, Ray-Mar, Mooncrest,
Hoach's, Missdee's, and
Sunshine. We plan to develop an
archival/historical section for our website where we will profile some of
our more memorable Alpine bucks and does who have influenced our breeding
program and other herds across the country. Our "A" line of
Alpines are all
direct descendents of a doe purchased in the early 1970's:
**************************** Our Toggenburgs link back in some way to the 1991 Spotlight Sale buck, ++*B Nimrodel Opera's Chivas Osage, a buck we purchased at the 1991 Spotlight Sale. The "R" Toggenburg line began with two does purchased from the Cobbler's Knob herd of Toggenburgs in the late 1980s, while the "W" line began with a doe purchased in the early 1990s from the Dairy Delight herd. The Sunshine and Marshland herds have also made major genetic contributions to our Toggenburgs.

Our "flagship"
shows each year
are the
Minnesota State Fair and, more recently, the ADGA National Show. We have shown our animals at
ththe Minnesota State Fair since 1980, the first year dairy goats were officially exhibited.
Over the years, the number and quality of
entries at that fair has increased and we are proud of our herd's
consistently strong performance. In 2011, we sent a
small show string of Toggenburgs to the ADGA National Show in Springfield, Massachusetts,
and again exhibited at the 2011 Iowa State Fair, in addition to the
Minnesota State Fair and Bluff Country Show in mid-September. ***************************
Though we were on DHIA test for close to thirty years, we no longer are a part of this program but did participate in the ADGA one-day testing program in early June of this year and are happy to report that several of our top show and brood does earned their stars. We plan to again participate in a one-day test in 2011.
********************************** We practice a CAEV prevention program and all kids offered for sale are raised on heat-treated colostrum and pan-fed pasteurized milk. If you have a specific health or management question, feel free to contact us. A deposit of $100 will hold the breeding or kid of your choice. If, however, the kid of your choice is not born, your deposit will be refunded or transferred to the next year. We reserve the right to retain any kid born for herd replacement. Please feel free to email, phone or write if you have any further questions. Once again, thank you for your interest in Kara Kahl Farm!
