Kara Kahl Alpines & Legendairy Toggenburgs

Thank you for your interest in Kara Kahl Farm Alpines and Legendairy Toggenburgs.

We live in the Bluff Country of southeastern Minnesota and our family has been raising dairy goats since 1970.  Our goats have been central to our many adventures as a family, through breeding, showing across the country, attending ADGA National Shows and conventions, participating in committee work for the Minnesota Dairy Goat Association and the American Dairy Goat Association, or just socializing with a variety of people who appreciate goats.

In 2005, we were honored to be recognized by the ADGA Pioneer Program at the National Convention for our contributions to the Association and to dairy goat genetics. The genetics of our French Alpines are rooted in some classic Alpine herds, including Laurelwood, Ray-Mar, Mooncrest, Hoach's, Missdee's, and Sunshine. Our "A" line of Alpines are all direct descendents of a doe purchased in the early 1970's:
GCH Mooncrest Ms. Amity.  Our Alpine breeding program has obviously progressed significantly since that time, and we are proud of maintaining a purebred French Alpine herd that is nationally competitive.

Our Toggenburgs link back in some way to the 1991 Spotlight Sale buck, ++*B Nimrodel Opera's Chivas Osage, a buck we purchased at the 1991 Spotlight Sale.  The "R" Toggenburg line began with two does purchased from the Cobbler's Knob herd of Toggenburgs in the late 1980s, while the "W" line began with a doe purchased in the early 1990s from the Dairy Delight herd. The Sunshine and Marshland herds have also made major genetic contributions to our Toggenburgs.  We made some hard deciscion this summer to place some of our of nicest animals in new homes, and we are freshening only two Toggenburg yearlings next spring.  For the forseeable future, the Toggenburg herd will stay a bit smaller, and that means that we will be offering the majority of our 2015 kid crop for sale.  Contact Anna if any animal or breeding in particular interests you.  We thank our many customers in 2014

.

Our "flagship" show each year is the Minnesota State Fair, and we consistently attend the ADGA National Show, the Iowa State Fair, and a number of clubs shows in the upper Midwest.  But the Minnesota State Fair is perhaps the event that is closest to our heart, and we have shown our animals at that event every year since 1980. Over the years we are proud of our herd's consistently strong performance.

Though we were on DHIA test for close to thirty years, we no longer are a part of this program.  We have participated in one-day testing in prior years, and are open to doing it again in the future.  Production is certainly a trait we value highly and is definitely emphasized in our breeding program.  We do keep barn records and so we have production data available to those who are interested.

**********************************

Kids are raised on strict CAEV prevention.  Births are attended and all kids are removed immediately at birth, and raised on pasteurized goat milk.  If you have any questions on health management do not hesitate to contact us. A deposit of $100 will hold the breeding or kid of your choice. We STRONGLY recommend that prospective buyers make a first and second choice.  If the kid of your choice is not born or does not meet our standards of quality, your deposit may returned, transferred to another choice, or retained for the next year.  We reserve the right to retain any kid born for herd replacement.

Please feel free to email, phone or write if you have questions.

Once again, thank you for your interest in Kara Kahl Farm!
