Akebono has freshened with her mother’s beautiful mammary system, strength, width, and level topline. After an extremely rough kidding as a yearling, she bounced back and delighted us with our first milking class win at a National Show in the very competitive Alpine breed. Akebono freshened with triplets in February as a 2-year old and finished her championship in her first show of the season.  She placed 2nd/2nd udder at the National Show She milked well over 3000 lbs as a 3 yr old and is easily onto her 2nd 3000 lb+ lactation in 2019. She was been Best in Show 3 times in 2019 and capped her year off with a Best Udder in Show win at the very competitive MN State fair . She milked through in 2020 and freshened in 2021 with triplets by Freeze Frame, milking more than she ever has producing nearly 18 lbs/day.  We believe having a year off gave her the chance to add extra weight to her frame that she traditionally milks off and looking better than ever at the 2021 National show, she was named National Champion and Best Udder.  A month later she appraised 94 EEEE, joining only two other Alpines to score that high.  She capped off her year with a Best Senior Doe in Show and Best Udder in Show win at the competitive Minnesota State Fair, as well as winning Highest Lifetime Production at the show, at over 17,000 lbs to date.  She ended her year just 30 lbs shy of 4000 lbs.  We are so proud of Akebono and honored to have her in our herd.

We retained her son, Akimoto for ourselves and Anita from 2021 as she is proving to be a valuable brood doe, with 2 champion daughters, Akeelah and Amal, and she and her daughter, Amal, were 1st place dam and daughter at the 2021 National Show.  Three of her 4 daughters (the 4th was sold as a yearling due to a leg injury) have records over 3000 lbs by the age of 3. Amal also appraised VEEE 91 at 2 years old.  In 2021,  Akebono aborted quads on Christmas, and was dry for the year. She had triplets by Windrush SL Invictus last Spring, and her yearling daughter freshened with a lovely udder.  She was back on top of the milking string at 8 years old, milking 15-16 lbs and milking just under 4000 lbs at 8 and on top of that was Best Senior doe in show and Best Udder in Show again at the Minnesota State Fair.   Akebono freshened for the last time this year at 9 as she has had some trouble passing her placenta’s the past two years, but has recovered well and we plan to retain both of her doelings this year.

Amal is very balanced and deep bodied doe. Her mammary system is very well attached and similar to her dam and maternal line. She was named the All American yearling in 2021.  She really deepened out and grew over the winter and freshened with just a single buck in 2021, so production is a bit lower, milking around 11 lbs this Spring.  She has still shown well this and summer placing  1 xGCH, 2 x RCH, 4 x 1st, 2 x 2nd  in 2021.  She was 4th place with 3rd udder 2 yr old at the 2021 National show and part of the 1st place Dam and Daughter with Akebono.  She also appraised 2-04 VEEE 91 in August, was 3nd place 2 yr old at the MN State Fair and finished her championship in September.  Amal has had a great show season.  With no official paperwork from ADGA, we have had to show her in regular classes this Spring and Summer.  She has been 4 x GCH and BOB and 2 x Best Senior Doe in Show of 5 times shown. Amal had a tough last month of pregnancy with pregnancy toxemia.  Thankfully she made it through and bounced back, especially in the last month of Summer. She topped the 4 year old class at Minnesota State Fair and was named Senior Champion in a competitive, large Alpine Show.  She also retained her appraisal score of VEEE 91. She had triplets by Invictus and we plan to retain one of the doelings

Anita is a a huge, powerful, incredibly dairy doe.  She was 11th place Sr. Kid at the 2021 National Show.  At the Bluff Country show, she placed 2 x 1st, 1 2nd of 9 Sr. Kids. Her parents had an excellent show being name National Champion and Premier Alpine Sire, who also sired the Jr. National Champion.  Anita had triplet bucks in February and is a tremendous milker. Unfortunately with all that milk we have been dealing with bowing in her rear legs we think due to her frame, large triplets and high production.  Her legs and feet been improving with BoSe, Vit D and corrective hoof trimming, but she was confirmed open on her pregnancy test in December, so we decided to milk her through over having late kids.  This has beneficial for Anita to continue to fill out her massive frame.  We have shown her 6 x this Spring and she was 1 x 1st and 1 x GCH, 2 x 2nd, 3 x 3rd-all to her herdmates.  She is at nearly 5000 lbs on this lactation and consistently milks 10-12 lbs.  Anita had two bucks (and later delivered a dead doe) and is up to well over 16 lbs.  Excited to get her out to some shows this year on a new lactation.

GCH (pending) Kara Kahl Handy Annie (AI)
(D.O.B. 2/28/2020)

2-04  VEEE 91

Sire:  Tempo Aquila Handyman-sired 2021 Total Performer
Dam:  Kara Kahl PGW Annika (EX VEEE 90)

                                                 Annie- Age 2 June 2023

At Minnesota State Fair-3rd behind herdmates Xuna and ArethaAnnie- 1 month fresh

Kara Kahl Handy Annie is our American girl. She was all legs at first but is deepening out into her body and we are excited to see how she continues to mature and freshen next year.  She placed 1 x 1st, 3 x 2nd at the Bluff Country Fall Show. Her 3 yr old dam, Kara Kahl PGW Annika, appraised VEEE 90 nd is a full sister to Akebono. Her sire, SG +*B Tempo Aquila Handyman, sired two does in the top 5 at the 2021 Nationals, including one of my personal favorites of Laurie’s, the Alpine Total Performer and 2nd place 5-6 yr old, SGCH Tempo Aquila Mazzei, 4-6 EEEE 93. Annie freshened in July with a lovely mammary, milking 11.2 lbs on her first test.  She was 3rd of 8 at the MN State fair, behind herdmates Xuna and Aretha. She was reserve twice to a finished champion at the Bluff Country Show, earning a milking restricted leg.   As a 2 year old, Annie again is milking great.  At her first show she was 2 x 1st, 1 GCH/BOB/Best Udder and Best doe in Show!  We were thrilled with her high appraisal of VEEE 91 this Spring. She was 3rd in a large competitive class at the Minnesota State Fair.  At our fall show, she earned what should be her third leg and is now a pending champion! Annie had a buck and doe by Redwood Hills Revolutionary Speed this Spring.

Kara Kahl AZ Xuna
(D.O.B. 3/04/2021)

Sire:  Kara Kahl Aizumi (full brother to Akebono)
Dam:  GCH Kara Kahl Samurai Xiomara

2-03 VEEE 89

                                                  Xuna Age 2- May 2023

At Minnesota State Fair, 1st of 8 and RCH Sr. Milking doe of 60 senior does!

Finally a doe kid from Xiomara after 4 years of waiting!  She was the 2nd place intermediate kid at the 2021 National Show   As a yearling Xuna thrilled us with a 1st place milking yearling and Reserve Champion win over 60 senior does shown at our competitive MN State Fair! At the Bluff Country Classic, she was reserve to a finished champion, and should have a (restricted) leg.  As a 2 yr old, she is still milking well-over 13 lbs this Spring and has been 3 x 1st, 1 x GCH, 1 RCH in her first shows.  She was the GCH and BOB at the District 4 Alpine Specialty in June 2023.  On appraisal day, we unfortuntately had a under-mixed batch of feed impacting a few does and she was one who’s digestive system was off  before appraisal, so wasn’t feeling or looking her usual self, so we feel her appraisal score wasn’t quite as high as it would have been had she been feeling herself.  She placed 2nd of 16 at the Minnesota State Fair in a class of 16. Xuna did not cycle with everyone else, so we placed a CIDR to do her AI, unfortunately she short cycled so was bred to her back up, Invictus. She had a single doe this spring but freshened without any milk.  She is up to about 6 lbs at a week fresh and we are hoping she continues to go up.

Kara Kahl Vic’s Aretha
(D.O.B. 4/19/2021)

Sire:  Windrush Farms SL Invictus
Dam:  GCH Kara Kahl PGL Arugula (dam of 2021 ADGA National Champion)

2-02 VEEE 90

Aretha age 2, September 2023

                                                  Aretha- Age 2 May 2023

Aretha at the Minnesota State Fair, placed 2nd of 8, behind Xuna

Arugula didn’t not settle AI this past fall, but we were happy to finally get her settled and are very pleased with her doeling by Invictus.  She is very correct on her feet and rear legs, something we always strive to improve.  She freshened with a beautifully attached mammary, typical of Arugula’s daughters, and at her first shows as a milker, she has placed 3 x 1st and 3 x 2nd, 1 x 3rd, all to her herdmates.  She was 2nd of 8 at the Minnesota State Fair.  She had buck/doe twins  AI to Pleasant Grove Zen Wingding, the doe will be retained.  Aretha has really increased production this Spring to over 12 lbs and we are eager to show her.  At her first show, Aretha was 3 x 2nd of 11-placing second to her herdmates Xuna and Anita. In our fall show, Aretha topped a very competitive class of 7 2 year olds and went on to be named champion and Best of Breed! Aretha’s daughter by Pleasant Grove Zen Wingding was Jr. Champion at our Minnesota State Fair.  Aretha had a single buck again by Wingding this Spring.  Aretha will be moving to a show and performance herd in Wisconsin this Spring and we think she will be excellent addition for her new owner.

Kara Kahl Jammin Avocado
(D.O.B. 2/12/2022)
Sire:  Pleasant Grove RR All Star Jam
Dam:  GCH Kara Kahl Manny’s Akeelah

1-04 GVVG 84

                                                   Avocado- June 2023

Avocado is extremely long, tall and level and easily earned her dry leg as kid.  She freshed with a very well attached mammary with a smooth foreudder and high rear udder. Avocado has been shown 6 times as a yearling including the D4 Alpine Specialty in Little Falls, MN in June 2023 and has been 2 x 1st, 3 x 2nd to her herdmate and 1 x 3rd.   Avocado developed mastitis in August and has become quite uneven in the 2nd half of the show season.  We are looking forward to a second freshening.  Avocado freshened with a single buck this spring.

Kara Kahl MRR Ampersand
(D.O.B. 2/18/2022)

Sire:  Marran Rose’s Rememberance (AI)
Dam:  Kara Kahl Elijah Amazelle (see recent reference does)

(Ampersand in middle)

As a kid, Ampersand was shown just once and earned her dry leg. Ampersand has freshened with a well attached udder and has had a strong Spring showing, placing 4 x 1st in 6 shows She has very correct frame, wide, level rump, very correct feet and legs and overall is very balanced.  She topped a large class of 11 of Milking yearlings at the Minnesota State Fair and was part of our 1st place breeders trio. Ampersand freshened with twin does by Arul this Spring.  One doeling will be available this summer.

Kara Kahl AM All About Eve
(D.O.B. 4/15/2022)

1-01 VVGV 86

Sire: Kara Kahl Akimoto
Dam:  Kara Kahl Vic’s Auriga

Eve freshened in early May and did not make it to Spring shows. She milked extremely well-averaging 9-11 lbs.   She had a well shaped mammary, high rear udder and was my highest appraising Alpine Yearling at 86 and placed 5 times firs in 2023,   She was 3rd of 11 at the Minnesota State Fair. We unfortunately lost Eve in Kidding in March, though did save her three kids.
